Stability provides confidence
Implants are an ideal choice for natural tooth loss. And, they’re particularly great for securing dentures. For most people who wear dentures (e.g., plate, false teeth, chompers), insecurity about them coming out at embarrassing moments is common. We’ve all seen the funny videos of people skydiving, or blowing out birthday candles—as the camera captures a denture flying out of their mouth. It isn’t so funny for the people who lose their teeth.
What are Overdentures?
Overdentures are like regular dentures, except they’re made with precision attachments that snap them into place using implants. Dental implants act like teeth, rooted into the bone, and can eliminate the need for adhesive.
Benefits of Overdentures
1.) They provide stability. Loose dentures cause sores in the mouth and allow food to get caught underneath, irritating the tissues.
2.) Snug fitting dentures are more comfortable, and chewing is improved.
3.) Implants preserve bone, preventing facial collapse.
4.) Embarrassing moments are avoided.
Dental Fact: Tartar (calculus) can build-up on dentures too. Take them out and brush them 2x daily, just like natural teeth. This helps with odor causing bacteria as well!
Lose the goop!
Many people use denture adhesive on a daily basis, not knowing how affordable implants can be. Some get used to the goop, because it’s certainly better than having loose teeth. But, having to use denture paste every day is less than ideal and isn’t a permanent solution. Products like Fixodent act as a glue, sticking the denture to the tissue. Lower dentures, which sit on the ridge of the jaw bone are usually harder to keep in place. This is where dental implants work so great.
Affordable Mini Implants
Mini implants might be a great option if you’re trying to keep costs down, but still want that extra security for your dentures. They are much thinner, and usually have less healing time than standard implants.
Every person is different, as are their particular dental needs. The number of implants you’ll need to secure your denture also varies. In most cases, 4 to 6 implants are ideal. However, having little as two can even provide paste-free support.
Dental Fact: Dentures should have routine check-ups, just like natural teeth!
