Dental Implants and Bone Loss

November 25, 2022 by chanakya

The jawbone needs regular stimulation in order to keep its shape, and also its density. When a tooth is lost, that regular stimulation from biting and chewing is gone, causing a loss of density. A dental implant from ColemanDental in Houston TX can prevent this from happening.

As the jawbone mass begins to recede, an unfortunate consequence is its impact on your appearance: the face takes on a sunken or sagging look. The dental implant, which is a metal post inserted into the jaw, can stop this by restoring the bone stimulation as you bite and chew.

The reason this happens is that the implant, because it is inserted into the bone, mimics the natural tooth root. Implants are usually made of titanium, a lightweight metal that easily fuses with the bone to become a part of the jaw.

Replacement teeth are mounted on top of the implant. One dental implant can support one artificial tooth. Several implants can support a dental bridge, and even a full dental arch.

In some cases, patients have already lost bone mass. Even in cases like that, bone grafting can promote new bone growth; enough so that the jaw can support an implant.

Dental implants from ColemanDental in Houston TX are state-of-the-art. People from Memorial Villages and Tanglewood also come to our office for complete cosmetic dentistry. Call today to schedule an appointment today!
