Pretty teeth are subconsciously linked to happy, confident people. But, cosmetic dentistry goes way beyond a beautiful smile. When we’re embarrassed by the appearance of our teeth, we tend to be more self-conscious and less social. We shy away or adamantly refuse to take close-up “selfie” photos and often find ourselves covering our mouths when we laugh.
Each person is unique and different, including their teeth and individual concerns. With that being said, everyone should be able to belly laugh and give giant, cheesy smiles with confidence! For some, cosmetic dentistry can be life changing, and the happiness that comes with a confident smile is contagious!
How do I get these pretty teeth?
For a lucky few, genetics plays a role. For the majority of us, we need a little help with our smiles. From the simple brightening of a Zoom whitening treatment, to a complete smile makeover with custom porcelain veneers, there’s something for everyone’s personal preference and restorative options.
“It’s funny because I want my teeth to be, like, neon, Real Housewives white, but mine have stopped taking to teeth whitening. When I talk to my dentist, I’m like, Can they be that white? And he’s like, veneers can be that white.” ~Christine Teigen
What if I want my teeth whiter, but not too white?
The Zoom in-office whitening treatment is done in 15 minute sessions. The color of your teeth are checked with a shade guide, before and after. You can always use your take-home whitening trays for touch-ups if you’d like to brighten more at home. If you know you want instant, brightest white teeth, veneers can get “that white” and are great for smile makeovers.

I have old, white fillings in my front teeth. Can I still whiten them?
Yes. However, restorative materials (fillings, crowns, etc.) will not whiten, but the natural enamel will. After a Zoom whitening treatment, and once you’re happy with the shade of your teeth, many times we can simply replace an old filling (bonding) to perfectly match the new, lighter color. Depending on the amount of tooth structure and size of the old fillings, sometimes crowns or veneers are recommended.
This snaggletooth has always bothered me, but I’m too old for braces.
Invisalign, or clear braces, are great for straightening out those crooked teeth! They’re removable and virtually invisible (similar to clear, take-home whitening trays), making them an ideal choice for busy adults. If you would like to make minor adjustments, maybe close a gap or straighten out that one snaggletooth, sticking out, doing its own thing—this might be a great option for you. Plus, you’re never too old for braces!
